Rose is the common name for flowering shrubs in the genus Rosa, celebrated for layered blooms, fragrance, and an unusually deep cultural history. Soil preference is typically fertile loam with good drainage, slightly acidic to near neutral (about pH 6.0–7.0). Many roses benefit from consistent moisture—roughly 25–40 mm of water per week during active growth—yet dislike waterlogged roots.
Cold tolerance varies widely: some species and rugosa types can endure winters below −25°C, while many tea and subtropical-leaning hybrids prefer milder climates.
